Update: Sugawara Sensei in Madison

As discussed below, Sugawara Sensei will be in Madison to teach Aikido on Thursday evening November 10th from 7-9pm, and Saturday the 12th from 10am to 12pm. The fees have been set as $20 for a single session and $32 for both sessions.

Randori Workshops at Madison

On Saturday, October 29 Stone Sensei will hold the first of what is anticipated to be four 1-day workshops dedicated to improving our ability to deal with multiple attackers, i.e., randori.  These will be spread out over several months.  The 2nd one is tentatively scheduled for December 10. There will be three classes, 10 AM, 2 and 4 PM and the price will be $50 per workshop.  The classes will all be held at Aikido of Madison, 2219 Atwood Avenue in Madison and are aimed at students 4th kyu and up, though the more training you’ve had, the more you’ll get out of it.

Each workshop will concentrate on an important aspect of the ability to respond spontaneously and appropriately to a single attacker and then to multiple attackers.  The series will be designed so that each workshop builds on the previous ones but also so that you can take just one if you so desire and still get something out of it.  Little in the way of technique will be taught.  Instead we’ll be focusing on increasing our awareness of some important principles of interaction so that we can allow the situation and our “feeling” to dictate the appropriate response.  Those of you who have trained with Stone Sensei know that this is something he’s been working on for a number of years now and is looking forward to sharing and exploring this with his students.
